What We Believe

We believe that there is one God, the Creator and Preserver of all things, infinite in being, and perfect in all His attributes and ways.  He exists eternally in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who are of one essence and equal in power and glory.

We believe that the sixty-six canonical books of the Bible, as originally written, were inspired by God, and are therefore free of error. We believe, furthermore, that although we do not possess any of the original manuscripts, we have ample linguistic/archaeological evidence as well as the promises of God to insure that the manuscripts we possess today, and the careful translations which have been produced from them, can be trusted as the Word of God. The Bible is our only infallible guide in all matters of faith and practice.

We believe that humanity, created in the image and likeness of God, fell from its sinless state through disobedience and, as a result, sin, corruption and death came upon all creation.  Therefore, no one has right standing before God based on one's own merit. Salvation is a free gift of God based solely upon grace through faith which He Himself gives.  God calls people to repent, confess Jesus as Lord, and believe in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead.

We believe that Jesus Christ, eternally pre-existent as the Son of God and God the Son, was born of a virgin by the Holy Spirit.  Thus Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man.  He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, and died on a cross for mankind by shedding His blood for the remission of sins.  According to the Scriptures, He rose from the dead on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the Father where He makes intercession for us, and will return again in power and glory to judge the living and the dead and to complete the Father's eternal plan.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the triune God, sent to the church by the Father and the Son. He applies to our individual lives the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit empowers the believer to live a true Christian life.  By regeneration a person experiences conversion and spiritual rebirth; by sanctification a person's nature comes progressively into conformity with Christ's own nature; by glorification a person will come into the full realization of his/her redemption.

We believe that the Holy Spirit also enables the church as a whole to carry out the purposes of God. This is accomplished primarily through the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  The baptism in the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father, procured by the Son, and given to the church to empower it and to enable it to effectively evangelize the whole earth.  The gifts of the Spirit are dispensed to individual believers in accordance with God's design and are intended to edify the church.  For the local church to function properly, it must be motivated by love for one another, and respect the individual gifts of all its members.

We believe that the church is to regularly carry out two ordinances -- water baptism and Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper).  It is our position that water baptism by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus is the biblical pattern that believers should follow.  Water baptism is an outward expression of repentance and also represents the believer's identification with the death of Jesus and the newness of life that follows.

Our emphasis in communion is not to be on the frequency of a ritualistic observance, but on remembering the Lord's death until He returns.  It is important for the believer to examine himself, especially in relationship to the other members of the body, prior to partaking of communion.

We believe that at the end of the age the bodies of all the dead shall be raised.  The righteous shall then enter into eternal bliss in the presence of God in Heaven.  All those who have rejected the Gospel shall be condemned to eternal death in hell, forever separated from the presence of God.
