"Pay it Forward" was originally released back in 2000, and was a movie that has forever changed the way I look at the difference one person is capable of making in this world. The movie focuses on a young boy named Trevor, who is given an assignment by his Social Studies teacher, Mr. Simonet. The assignment: think of something you could do, to change the world, and then do it. Trevor comes up with an idea to do something that would help 3 different people, with the goal of getting those 3 people, to "Pay it Forward." His response to those people asking him why he's doing such a nice thing: Pay it Forward! Repaying good deeds done for you, with new good deeds done for three different people so that they can "pay it forward" to 3 new people and so on and so on, would allow positive changes to occur in our world. Mr. Simonet's assignment was simply meant to inspire, but in the end accomplished so much more! Trevor's efforts to make good on his idea ignited a revolution not only in himself and his immediate sphere of influence, but in the lives of an ever-growing circle of people completely unknown to him.
At MWC, we feel like God is our Mr. Simonet (stay with me) and He's given us the assignment to figure out something we can do to change the world, and then do it! What if each of us (or even some of us) decided to respond the way young Trevor did?! What changes would we see in our world if we began doing things for other people, and in turn they were inspired to do the same for other people, and so on and so on, and a revolution began in our town of Ashland, and eventually reached an ever-widening circle of people?! Just thinking about it gets me excited! We (me, you) can change the world!
In the middle of our world today and all that's going on, deep down haven't you ever thought, “I wish there was something I could do?” I know I have! But all to often, that's where I stop. I wish I could do something, I wish things would change, but usually nothing happens after that, and I continue on the course I've traveled for as long as I can remember. I believe Ghandi said it best, "Be the change you want to see in the world." At, MWC, we're grabbing this idea and we're gonna run with it! Well, it isn't really our idea, or even Ghandi's idea. We believe it was originally God's idea. Check this out...
God came up with a way for the world to be reunited with Him and find true life and meaning. Here is what he did - “For God so loved the world He gave…!" (John 3:16a) That’s it! He already knew then what we must learn today. When we give to someone, we really live! God gave a priceless gift that started a revolution and transformation of the world. He gave his one and only son. Jesus got this idea too. Jesus cooperated with His Fathers will and gave his life willingly for you and for me 2,000 years ago and the world has not been the same to those who believe in what He did. Life really begins when we give to others, expecting nothing in return, but believe it will make a big difference in the future!
At MWC, we believe Christianity in its truest sense, is like breathing. Breathe in, breathe out. What we receive, or breathe in, we in turn should give away, or exhale. I'm not talking about breath checks, I am talking about, “Paying it Forward”. Jesus paid our debt of sin so we didn’t have to. He did it when we weren’t even expecting it or even deserving it. He gave us precisely what we needed but exactly what we didn’t deserve. What would happen if we began to, "Pay it Forward" by choosing a few people to do something nice for, without expecting anything in return, but believed it could make a difference in the future?
Join us as we reach out to those around us with this life-changing idea taken from the blockbuster hit movie “Pay it Forward”. Together, let's see how we can actually change our world, by accepting the free gift of Jesus, by "Paying it Forward."
