Five Years, 2,353 Job Seekers, Countless Hot Dogs and Hundreds of Success Stories
Michigan Works! West Central's Hiring Parties Continue To Deliver Results
Come hungry, leave with a job.
That simple slogan once again proved effective as Michigan Works! West Central wrapped up its 2026 Hiring Party schedule, bringing together hundreds of job seekers and employers across our six-county region. This year's Hiring Parties were held in Big Rapids, Newaygo, Ludington, Hart, Baldwin and Reed City as part of our annual effort to create direct connections between local talent and businesses with immediate hiring needs.
The results speak for themselves.
In June, Michigan Works! West Central completed its fifth annual Hiring Party tour, hosting six events across the region. The 2026 events attracted 417 job seekers and 121 employers, continuing a tradition that helps connect local talent with businesses looking to hire. We also served up nearly 700 hot dogs.
But the true impact of Hiring Parties can be measured over time.
During the first four years of the program, 1,936 job seekers attended Hiring Parties, and 647 of them found employment as a result of the connections made at these events. That means roughly one in three attendees secured work after participating!
"The Hiring Parties have become much more than job fairs," said Michigan Works! West Central CEO Shelly Keene. "They're opportunities for people to have meaningful conversations, make personal connections and often take the first step toward a new career."
Unlike traditional hiring events, Michigan Works! West Central's Hiring Parties create a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere where job seekers can meet face-to-face with employers, learn about opportunities and in some cases participate in on-the-spot interviews. Employers benefit by meeting dozens of motivated candidates in a single location, helping them fill critical workforce needs more efficiently.
The success of the events is reflected not only in the numbers, but also in the stories behind them. Every year, Hiring Parties bring together recent graduates looking for their first job, workers seeking a career change, individuals reentering the workforce and employers searching for talent to help grow their businesses.
The 2026 season marked another strong year for the program, with employers representing industries ranging from healthcare and manufacturing to hospitality, retail, education and skilled trades. In total, 121 employers participated across the six events, providing hundreds of employment opportunities for area residents. At this tie, Michigan Works! West Central is still working to calculate how many job offers were made following this year's Hiring Parties.
As Michigan Works! West Central looks ahead, the organization remains committed to creating innovative ways to connect people with opportunity. The Hiring Parties have proven that sometimes the best workforce solutions are also the simplest: Bring employers and job seekers together, create a low-pressure environment for conversation and let connections happen.
Five years later, the results speak for themselves.
Since the program began, more than 2,350 job seekers have attended Michigan Works! West Central Hiring Parties, and hundreds have taken the next step toward meaningful employment.
We thank every employer, job seeker, staff member and community partner who has helped make the Hiring Parties a success year after year. We look forward to continuing this tradition and creating even more success stories in the years ahead.
