UIA Online Resources Will Be Available During Three-Day Holiday Weekend

August 29, 2025

Offices Will Be Closed Over The Labor Day Weekend & reopen Tuesday, Sept. 2

Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) offices will be closed for Labor Day, but workers still can access online resources to file jobless claims, certify work searches or find answers to questions about unemployment.

Workers can file claims online -- following the steps in the UIA Claimant Roadmap -- or certify their job searches using the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM) over the holiday weekend. MiWAM is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week; log in at Michigan.gov/UIA.

Applying and certifying online is the quickest and most efficient way to file for benefits.

On Labor Day, claimants will not be able to certify their work searches by calling the Michigan Automated Voice Interactive Network (MARVIN). MARVIN will be available again from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Claimants must report their job status and whether they meet work eligibility requirements every two weeks in order to collect jobless benefits.

UIA’s new artificial intelligence-powered chatbot is available 24 hours a day every day at Michigan.gov/UIA. Workers and employers can access the chatbot using either a desktop or mobile device for quick and accurate responses to questions.

Be aware that due to the holiday, there may be a slight delay next week in unemployment benefits being deposited into bank accounts or added to U.S. Bank debit cards.

UIA’s 12 Local Offices; MiWAM chat; in-person, phone and virtual appointments; and Customer Service hotline at 1-866-500-0017 will be available again starting Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Workers can access these online resources at any time over the holiday:

  • The UIA Claimant Roadmap, a six-step, user-friendly guide to applying for and understanding benefits. Access the roadmap at Michigan.gov/UIAClaimantRoadmap.
  • A list of Online Coaching Sessions, which are web-based group sessions led by UIA staff on topics such as filing a first-time claim, understanding a Monetary Determination letter, the protest and appeals process, and seeking work and registration requirements. The First-time Filer Coaching Session is also available in Spanish.
  • A calendar of available phone, virtual, or in-person appointments that can be scheduled up to 14 days in advance at Michigan.gov/UIA.
  • Answers to frequently asked questions, toolkits, and resources at Michigan.gov/UIA.
  • A library of helpful instructional videos can be viewed on YouTube.
  • A comprehensive list of resources for federal workers who have been terminated at Michigan.gov/FederalWorkerHelp.
  • Apply for free legal help through the Advocacy Program. Advocates help more workers and employers with appeals of UIA redeterminations.
  • MiUI University to learn more about UIA’s upcoming new, modern MiUI computer system available to all users in Summer 2026. MiUI will be easy to use, speed claims processing, and build on the agency’s aggressive anti-fraud tactics. It also will include plain language forms and correspondence for easier understanding of expectations.
